Guest Services | Cashiers, Cafe, Kitchen & Train Drivers

The Gulf Breeze Zoo is seeking a motivated individuals to join our Zoo Crew in the guest services department. The ideal candidate must be friendly and inviting, while working in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs. Flexible shifts, full-time and part-time available.

Position Requirements:

  • Operate point of sale system in retail and/or cafe setting.

Responsible for selling rides, animal feed, gifts, snacks, food etc.

  • Assisting in set up of parties, field trips, and for other events and groups.
  • Basic cleaning duties
  • Answering phones
  • Assisting visitors with questions or concerns

Past experience in customer service and/or retail a plus. Must be 16 to apply, must be 18 with clean driving record to apply for all Train positions. Full-time and part-time positions available, flexible shift scheduling. This is a non-smoking facility. No visible tattoos or facial piercings are permitted. Great pay and a fun work environment!

Zookeeper I

The Gulf Breeze Zoo, a 50-acre facility located in the beautiful Florida panhandle, is expanding and searching for additional keepers. The Zoo maintains a collection of over 850 animals including great apes, carnivores, primates, birds, reptiles and a large petting area.

Position Requirements:

This position requires a minimum of one-year experience working with exotics in a zoological setting. An Associates or Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but those combined with hands-on experience will be given preference.

Preferred applicants will have at least 1-year experience working with a wide variety of exotic animals including mammals, birds, and reptiles. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to animal care, training, behavioral enrichment, assist with medical needs, daily records and help with habitat maintenance. Although the primary role of this position is animal care, interacting and educating guests will be required.

Giraffe Feeding Station Attendant

Position Requirements:

  • Sell animal feed to guests using portable tablet.
  • Observe guests feeding giraffes and ensure safe practices within trained guidelines.
  • Keep surrounding areas clean throughout duration of shift
  • Answer questions and provide information about giraffes.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and a positive, friendly attitude
  • Must be familiar with touch screen tablets and general working knowledge of point of sale systems

Part Time Mechanic

The Gulf Breeze Zoo is seeking a dedicated, self motivated, part-time mechanic with a diverse skill set including small engines, gas and diesel engines, machine operation, and general tool up-keep knowledge.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be able to work rain or shine, in all types of weather
  • No visible tattoos or piercings
  • Valid driver's license with copy of driving record
  • Work history with mechanical experience.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs or more

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Ability to make inspections and repairs as needed on tractors, small engines, chainsaws, generators, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair as needed
  • Identify parts and components that need repairs
  • Inspect and routinely change fluids, filters, lines, lights, etc. as part of weekly checks
  • Make lists, keep daily records of tasks and remain organized in large project areas
  • Lift, remove, install items as needed per task

Other skills are a bonus, but not necessary:

  • Welding
  • Carpentry
  • Electrical wiring and repair

Landscaper | Full Time/ Part Time

The Gulf Breeze Zoo is seeking additional landscaping help for Zoo grounds. Applicants should preferably have plant knowledge with related experience and the willingness and ability to do physical work outside in all types of weather. To succeed in the Zoo, all landscapers must be detail oriented, self-motivated, good spirited and honest with a strong work ethic.

Position Requirements:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • General garden bed clean up (Weeding, Pruning, Deadheading, Planting, Dividing, Edging, Trimming, Mulching, Occasional Grass Cutting and Leaf Removal.)
  • Planting and maintaining new plants in and around Zoo animal exhibits
  • Maintaining clean work environment and areas, including golf carts, tools, greenhouse, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • Hired landscape experience, 1 year Required

Gulf Breeze Zoo is a Drug Free and Smoke Free work environment. Competitive salary, insurance, paid sick/vacation time and 401k options available. In addition, a medical benefits package including vision and dental is available. Salary: $12.00 to $14.00/hour and flexible scheduling, weekend not required.

Zookeeper Internship

Position Requirements:

  • Interns will work primarily in the Animal Care department and include daily husbandry, exhibit maintenance, supervised animal training, animal observations and diet preparation.
  • Interns will be trained and shadow numerous guest interactions which may include formal and informal interactions with Zoo guests through animal encounters, talks, tours etc.
  • All interns are required to complete a special project within their focus of interest, determined by the intern coordinator. This will include research of zoo population management strategies, natural history, current research and conservation programs.

Requirements:

  • Must receive college credits for internship and provide proof from college adviser.
  • Minimum 1 year of college with minimum 2.5 overall GPA
  • Internships are completed in a single 10 consecutive week commitment
  • Must be available for at least 3, 8 hour days per week, for a total of 250 hours for completion.

Additional Notes:

Interns will be expected and required to interact with a diverse team of animal care staff, interns and volunteers. Interns will be expected to follow direction of full time staff for their personal safety and safety/care of all animals in the area. Interns will be expected to work regular animal care schedules including weekends and holidays if applicable during placement term. This internship is a physically demanding experience and will require intermediate levels of strength and flexibility as well as the ability to work outdoors and in all types of weather conditions. Uniforms will be provided to all interns upon start of internship. Interns will be evaluated regularly by mentors on performance and knowledge. Gulf Breeze Zoo reserves the right to dismiss an individual from the keeper internship at any point during the term.

Wages: Unpaid

Enrollment fee: $50.00 to be paid upon acceptance
